Coil heat exchanger repair

In Spring 2026, we were contacted by a client here in the UK to service a biomass coil heat exchanger for a poultry farm in their power generation plant.

The client sent the three units from their power generation plant that had failed due to ammonia contamination (chicken faeces).

The damaged units were causing reduced thermal efficiency, leakage and risked operational downtime.

AKS inspected and assessed the three units, performed partial retubes on two units, and repaired the other unit. All three units were pressure tested to specified pressures and passed, and a work test certificate was issued to confirm compliance.

Coil heat exchanger manufacture

In addition to the repairs, the client required two new replacement units to be manufactured to pattern within a three-week turnaround period.

This included:

  • Galvanised sheet steel for framework
  • Plain Copper tube from stock, manipulated to suit.
  • BSP inlet/outlet brass fittings.

We produced 3D models from the old units to manufacture the two new units.

The two newly manufactured replacement units were pressure tested to specification and passed all required testing procedures.

The repaired and replacement units were delivered back to the site and returned to service successfully, restoring reliable operation at the client’s poultry farm power generation plant.
