Tubes are a key component of most heat exchangers, particularly the shell and tube variety. Tubes are usually made of cupro-nickel (90/10 Cuni) and like most metals, these tubes change size slightly under extremes of hot or cold. These extremes of heat or cold are commonplace in a heat exchanger.
Causes of blocked or eroded tubes can therefore include:
- Salt-water erosion/corrosion
- Freshwater erosion/corrosion
- Calcium build-up
If your heat exchanger has been regularly serviced and properly cleaned, then these problems may be fixed through cleaning. However, if the problem has caused too much damage, the tubes may need to be replaced. If this is the case, our engineers will professionally replace them with the finest quality tubes, as well as providing recommendations on how to better take care of your system.
Following any retubing process, we always pressure-test the unit to ensure complete safety, reliability and performance. NDT testing is also available if required.
